For Homebound’s second-ever event, we’re stepping outdoors. Following our magical intimate long lunch at Smokelovers last year, INDULGE opens the riverside nightclub Sanctuary early for a slow-burning sun session.
On Saturday 21 March from 1pm, Sanctuary at Helen Mayo Park will transform into a food, drink and music affair designed to spoil the senses, featuring chefs Edward Noble and Lisa Lim, a Honeydripper bar takeover, local winemakers and DJs soundtracking the afternoon.
Aside from the daylight hours that come with Sanctuary’s annual one-day festival Sidebyside, this will be the first time the venue opens to the daytime, and the first time a pop-up kitchen will be installed in the space.
“Given INDULGE is a food-focused daytime event, we’re really looking forward to seeing how people interact with the venue in a new way,” says Sanctuary co-founder Elliott Jamie.
Chefs Eddie and Lisa, who together host the dinner party project Pseudo, will bring bold, fresh flavours blending Italian and Cambodian influences, with a share-style menu and dietaries catered for.
Guests can look forward to an à la carte menu featuring charcoal chicken à la kroeung skewers with remoulade; ricotta dumplings with pork and fennel sausage, garlic and pangritata; and charred eggplant with burnt chilli yoghurt, fregola, currants, almonds and fresh herbs, among other dishes.
“We’ll be pulling heavily on influence from our recent venture Pseudo,” Eddie says.
“We have a mutual love for all things Italian, and Lisa has woven in some of her Cambodian background into the food, a cuisine that’s often overlooked.”
With past experience at Magill Estate and Down the Rabbit Hole, the duo first met in the kitchen at HNLY in 2023, when Eddie was head chef and Lisa the sous chef.
Eddie has since launched his own venture Noble Food while Lisa now heads the kitchen at Trak, but the two have continued teaming up in the kitchen.
“Kitchens can be volatile, so having good people around you is everything. You spend more time in the kitchen than with your family,” Eddie says. “We’re both level headed, passionate and ultimately have fun when we work together.”
They’re also drawn to the challenge of new and unusual spaces, and creating a kitchen from scratch inside an outdoor venue will be one of them.
“I love cooking outside the walls of a regular kitchen, and I’m super keen to be teaming up with the crew at Homebound, Sanctuary and Honeydripper – also getting some Cambodian flavours out to people!” Lisa says.
INDULGE will also mark the very first pop-up for East End favourite high-fidelity bar Honeydripper, where owners Sean Howard and Raf Thomson will bring some classic and new for the venture to the west side.
“We’re friends with the crew at Sanctuary as we are with the crew at Homebound. The opportunity to get further involved with two incredibly influential teams within our first year of steering this ship was an obvious yes,” says Sean.
“We’re cashing in on the tail end of summer – fizz from start to finish. Pulling out some of our staples from the venue, slightly riffed with local producer Pluto Spirits.
“Clarified carbonated apple wine and lemon myrtle booze and juice, and our guilty pleasure eavesdrop – which was our take on a guava cruiser (it makes us feel a little bit better about wanting to smash a guava cruiser).
“Also a honey grapefruit Paloma spin off, an ultra-decadent and velvety pornstar martini riff and a little somethin somethin we are cooking up as a once off collab with Homebound, TBA.
“In short, all of our fun yums that don’t take themselves too seriously and love being consumed in multiple quantities.”
The Honeydripper cocktail list will be complemented by Adelaide wines from Moorak, Worlds Apart and Delinquente, available by the glass or by the bottle for friends to share. Moorak winemaker Jordan Hein is especially excited to give attendees a first taste of his new unreleased range of sparkling.
The session moves through sets from Sink (Brigitte and Pia), Gwilym (Wil Davies), Local Man and Melbourne’s Ruby (Lush Dance Party) playing her first Adelaide gig in almost a year.
The DJs will guide the afternoon’s energy before handing back over to the Sanctuary program from 7pm, where INDULGE ticket holders are welcome to stay for the Sanctuary party.
INDULGE is for basking in the early autumn sun with friends. Eat well, drink freely and move with the music into the night.
