ALL-IN-ONE WITH KARGO

A tunnel party is the first event of many for the new entertainment company Kargo. We sat down with founder Alex Moore to chat about the business’s video series, its record label, and what will be going on at the underground launch.

There’s a lot to unpack about Kargo. Founder Alex Moore aka SASCHANIGHT puts it simply:

“It’s an entertainment company that’s broken up into three elements: events, a record label, and a video series.

“The three exist cohesively by supporting each other, and in doing so, feed and promote everyone who becomes a part of them.”

We’re sitting down with 24-year-old Alex in CBD’s Curated, where the streetwear store plays a big role in Kargo — particularly in its “Selex” video series.

Along with Kargo director Hasthi Yapa, creative director Samuelson, and partner Moufadal Ibrahim, Selex is the first aspect of the company that Alex has revealed online.

It involves inviting artists from all genres into a private studio/set space within Curated to perform their magic, which is live streamed online for people to view during and after the live set.

In a few episodes’ time, the series will evolve into a “live shopping experience”, where both performers and customers within Curated will be live streamed simultaneously. Alex likens it to Hör Berlin and NPR Tiny Desk Concerts, except store shoppers are platformed too.

“We’ll be inviting everybody to come into the store. You won’t be able to go into the studio space, but you can hear the music, and watch it being projected onto the shop walls, whilst also being streamed shopping for those watching online.”

While Selex has already premiered online, Kargo will officially go live on Friday March 31 with a celebratory launch party.

Heading below ground to The Tunnels of The Lions Hotel, Kargo will host an immersive entertainment event within the only publicly accessible tunnels from World War II that exists in SA.

The tunnel party will focus on the realms of techno house music, with a line-up featuring Naarm/Melbourne’s renowned Mabel, Ekzander, and LOIF alongside Kaurna/Adelaide talent 44YUSH and Eluize.

There will be full bar facilities within the venue, with visual art projections stretching across the tunnel walls as the night unfolds.

“The crowd can expect a truly remarkable audio-visual experience,” Alex says.

“They’ll be immersed in the sounds of the artists carefully handpicked for this event, with high-fidelity sound systems tuned specifically for the unique space. The music will be paired with programmed lighting and projection fixtures. We’re really excited for everyone to experience it.”

While the first event has an electronic focus, Kargo will be diversifying genres and locations with more sporadic standout events ahead.

The last part of Kargo is its record label with five artists currently managed under it, including Alex and rap artists Samuelson and EthanRIP. Each artist currently involved is set to release their projects under the label later this year.

Alex says the Kargo record label has a structure which focuses on the artists’ independence, while also supporting them and connecting them to further opportunities under the Kargo branches.

The Kargo vision highlights each of the partner’s strengths from marketing to producing. For Alex, it allows his industry knowledge and skills to thrive while supporting other talent.

Alex has been immersed in music from a young age, floating between instruments. He began playing the cello at four years old, and his skills as a musician have paved the way through his education, where he scored three scholarships across his schooling and university life.

Joining the other three members to bring Kargo to life is ultimately a way to celebrate a diverse range of music while supporting up-and-coming artists.

“We want to provide exposure to something people might or might not have heard of or seen, and do so with that next level of creativity,” Alex says.

“It’s all under the Kargo brand; you get everything in one.”
