Futuristic museum MOD.‘s 2023 exhibition FLEX is an exploration of pushing limits. It’s the tenth exhibition by MOD., which is a part of UniSA on North Terrace, where FLEX challenges your perception of risks, capacity for pain, and understanding of ethical boundaries.
MOD. is celebrating these concepts with its upcoming FLEX Party. On Friday, May 12, from 6 pm to 9 pm, the free event invites you to party at the museum and explore the galleries, with live music, entertainment, food, and drink to go along.
“You’ll experience tension and curiosity,” says FLEX exhibition coordinator Claudia von der Borch.
“This exhibition builds from a juxtaposition of real and speculative futures for our bodies, to a reflective space for considering the ethical boundaries we create and embrace.”
It will be a night at the museum and a special experience. Here are five things you’ll get to do >>
1. Interactive galleries
All FLEX interactive exhibitions will be open to explore during the exhibition party. Exhibits include meeting digital versions of yourself, delving into body augmentation, learning about resilience, visualising pain, exploring ideas about living on Mars, and the list goes on. They challenge you to think about aspects of the future and test perceptions of reality. Stroll through over the course of the night.
2. Brighter Later drinks
By the co-owners of Adelaide bars Clever Little Tailor and Pink Moon Saloon, Brighter Later will be covering drinks for the night, and serving them in blood bags. The concept relates to the “Bodification” exhibit which looks at biomedical technologies and the future of our bodies. The gin is distilled locally, while the brand has a focus on hope ahead – much like MOD. itself.

3. Braising Boy food truck
Fuelling the fun for the night is Braising Boy, which will be setting up its truck out the front of MOD. Serving up “delicious and moreish” Mexican food, expect tacos, nachos, corn ribs, etc. inspired by the vibrancy of Mexican cuisine and the L.A. taco scene. While they’ll be pushing deliciousness to the limits, there will be a Chile Mojo hot sauce challenge on the night too for an ultimate test for taste.

4. Cazeaux O.S.L.O
Musician Dominic Wagner aka Cazeaux O.S.L.O will be soundtracking the night. While he raps and sings with bands SO.Crates, Sunset Cities and Man Made Mountain, Dominic is also a king behind the decks. He’ll be spinning smooth sounds to get you grooving between exhibitions.

5. South Coast Circus
It wouldn’t be a ‘flex’ party without some physical theatrics. Acrobats from South Coast Circus will be roving through the night. Expect impressive physical feats from the Adelaide Fringe regulars who also run a circus school in Aldinga. Leave with fresh inspiration for propensity and a taste of some local stars.
