STREETWEAR STORE AND A PLACE TO CREATE

Curated is the city’s newest streetwear store offering a space for local up-and-coming brands to showcase their pieces. With screen printing and a photography studio also on site, the space doubles as a destination for creative expression.

Aidan Berry, Matthew Little and Cooper Grace have long been invested in Adelaide’s streetwear scene.

With Matthew and Cooper launching their clothing brand Ill Fated in 2018, and Aidan starting his screen printing business Pure Ink in 2021, the trio have now joined forces opening their first streetwear store Curated last month.

On level two of the Myer Centre, Curated is a space to exercise their creativity in fashion further and support other like-minded people in doing so too.

“It’s basically a creative space, a retail space, and a screen printing space all in one,” Aidan says.

Curated offers a mix of local and nationwide labels, where pieces vary from branded hoodies and t-shirts, to totes and caps.

The space gives local creators, such as Scumbag Studios and Inside Thoughts, a residence to showcase their lines in a permanent pop-up alongside national heavy weights including Purgatory and Something Wonderful.

“We have about 12 brands here at the moment, and it’s growing,” Aidan says.

“We try to do 50-50 local and bigger Australian brands that everyone loves — stocking local supports creatives like ourselves, while bigger brands help attract more customers into the space.”

The concept of Curated was brought to life with the help of Renew Adelaide, which is a non-for-profit organisation supporting business ventures by offering rent-free spaces in the CBD.

Garments sit folded, hang, and drape across the spacious minimalistic store. Magazines are scattered throughout, inviting shoppers to loiter a little longer.

With the near arrival of Aidan’s screen printing equipment, Pure Ink will soon service from the store, which also acts as an event space to hold workshops and gatherings.

Through to the backroom is a photography studio space where visitors can shoot content — it’s an extension of the creative expression that goes about the store.

Matthew says the bigger vision, especially into 2023, is to further push the idea of Curated being a “place to create”.

“It’s not just a streetwear store — it’s a platform,” Matthew says.

“It gives local creators another space for community engagement and a ground to get their stuff out there.”
